Resilience is the ability to overcome obstacles, solve problems, and bounce back from difficult situations.

The ability to live victoriously is very much predicated upon the level of resilience one possesses – although the wellspring from which this resilience draws is critically important to its holding us up in the face of challenges.

Resilience that is based on our own strength will invariably buckle.

For Christians who are redeemed by God’s grace, however, we have direct access through the Holy Spirit to the strength and power of the resurrected Christ.

This is the true resilience that empowers us to be victorious overcomers!

Holly was already 16 weeks pregnant when she was connected to Heroic Media’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Jacksonville, Florida, through OAASYS’s Emergency Response ad.

Believing herself to be “too broken to have another child,” she had searched for abortion providers on the internet.

“Resilient” was not a trait she identified with.

Rather, “victim” and “unworthy” came closer to the way she viewed herself.

Holly had grown up in foster care and had fended for herself in many ways from an early age, not trusting anyone.

This mistrust of others was significantly exacerbated by an abusive relationship she’d been trapped in for twelve years.

During that time, she’d had three abortions in secret out of fear of her abuser finding out about the pregnancies.

To her great dismay, she had also contracted herpes from an ex-boyfriend.

Thank God she made it to our partner center!

Holly told her client advocate that the father of her preborn baby was “a good man” and he wanted her to have their baby.

Yet, she was so deeply wounded and scarred by her past that she would not allow herself to love or trust him.

She believed that aborting this baby would be a means by which “she could protect herself from more hurt and maintain her fragile grip on survival.”

With great care and compassion, the client advocate was a conduit through whom God’s Spirit connected with Holly in her devastating heartache.

Her client advocate emphasized to Holly that she did not have to be defined by her past, but, rather, that God had defined her as His precious daughter in whom He greatly delighted.

The God of the Universe thought the world of her and loved her with an unending, unfailing love!

These words of life-giving power spoken over Holly helped her to see the resilience she had been given through Christ’s resurrection power at work within her.

Her past could have no hold on her!

The loving affirmation Holly experienced at the pregnancy center dramatically effected aparadigm shift in how she viewed herself and her circumstances.

The ultrasound she saw of her baby also had a powerful impact on her.

She was surprised to see how developed her baby was, energetically moving about in her womb – and at one point, even putting his thumb in his mouth!

Newfound resilience rose within Holly and combated the fear she felt about her pregnancy.

Empowered, she found the courageto live again, and in so doing, was freed to choose life for her child!
