Sophia had been dreaming of a move to Europe for years, and she was finally making it a reality!
She was a young, single woman, “ready to take on the world!”
She was about a month away from her departure when she found out she was unexpectedly pregnant.
At first she was in shock, and didn’t know what to do.
She had never considered having a baby.
And the idea of being pregnant and alone in a foreign country seemed overwhelming.
Abortion “seemed like the ‘logical choice,’” and she was pretty sure she was early enough in her pregnancy to get a legal medication abortion rather than surgical.
Within hours of confirming through a positive pregnancy test, Sophia began looking online for an abortion facility.

She made an immediate appointment to be seen.
At the pregnancy center, Sophia and the father of the baby listened to their client advocate explain the procedure and serious risks of a medication abortion.
Suddenly, she wasn’t sure if this was “the right decision” for her.
She needed more information before deciding.
Her client advocate continued to counsel her on the alternatives to abortion and the resources available to support women should they choose the options of parenting or adoption rather than abortion.
Sophia was then offered a free ultrasound to confirm her baby’s gestational age and to learn more about her pregnancy.
During the ultrasound, the father of the baby started looking emotional.
Finally, he spoke up and told Sophia that if she wanted to parent the baby, he would move to Europe with her, get a job, and help her raise the baby.
Sophia was shocked, but also relieved.
She no longer felt alone in her decision-making – both with the support of the center staff and now the baby’s father.
After thinking about it for a few more days, Sophia made the decision to carry the baby and parent – and move to Europe along with the baby’s father – with plans to get married to provide a committed family unit for this first child and any more who would be added in future years!
They expressed their profound thanks to the pregnancy center staff for helping them make the right decision for themselves and for their precious baby’s life.
