One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is the assurance that God is an intentional God Whose plans and purposes are better than our own.
Like many 18-year-old young ladies, Kayla was excited about her plans to start a new chapter in her life following high school.
She had nearly every detail ironed out for her first semester at Oklahoma City University, where she would be attending on a well-earned scholarship.
What Kayla didn’t know yet was that God had a different – even better – plan – although it would take some time for her to realize the beauty of that plan.
Just before whisking off to college, the newly-single student learned that she was pregnant.
Like many other young girls, Kayla didn’t believe it possible to pursue her dreams and raise a baby at such a young age.
She’d planned to major in Biomedical Research and eventually pursue post-graduate work.
With abortion her immediate “first choice,” she pulled out her iPhone and began making “new plans”: plans to terminate the pregnancy.
Her internet search instantly triggered Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad.
She called the number displayed and was connected with OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The pregnancy center advocate who received her call spoke intentionally and kindly, and eventually scheduled an appointment for Kayla to come in to further discuss her options.
The words Kayla heard that day were life-giving.
She heard that she was a strong, capable young woman; that she could be an excellent mother to her baby and also pursue her dreams at the same time.
She heard stories of countless women who have done both – and even gone on to make a dramatic impact in the world.
These were the words Kayla needed to hear in order to understand that sometimes our plans are not the “best” plans, but the Lord gently leads us to His greater purposes.
At the appointment, Kayla’s first ultrasound was inconclusive in confirming or dating the pregnancy.
She scheduled a follow-up appointment to take another look at a later date.
In between her first and second appointments, Kayla shared her news of her pregnancy with a few trusted people in her life.
Much to her surprise, she learned that her parents had similarly faced an unexpected pregnancy with her older sister!
Kayla was deeply moved by this news.
She couldn’t IMAGINE a life without her older sister – and was so grateful her parents didn’t choose abortion so many years prior!
It was this news, following the compassion, support, and words of encouragement and empowerment that she’d received at the pregnancy center, that cemented Kayla to change her mind about aborting this baby and make a firm choice for life!
Thanks to the critical role you played helping to sponsor that OAASYS ad, Kayla is now walking in God’s greater purpose for her life, and gets to experience the joys of choosing life over death for her preborn child – understanding that she can embrace motherhood alongside her education and career ambitions and life plans.
Praise God!
