Madison was 17 years old and approaching her senior year of high school when she discovered she was unexpectedly pregnant.
While so many young girls try to hide their pregnancies from their parents, Madison had a different reaction: she shared the news with her mother immediately.
From as early as she could remember, her mom had always assured her, “There’s no mistake ‘so bad’ that mom won’t help you fix.”
Because of this promise, Madison felt secure in her relationship with her mom, certain that no news – good or bad – could ever drive a wedge between them.
When she told her mom about her pregnancy, the result was exactly as she expected: an empathetic hug, and pivot to “problem solving”.
Madison’s mother asked her if she was excited about becoming a mother.
After a lengthy moment of silence, Madison replied, “I don’t know. What are my options? Maybe I’m early enough that I could take a pill and ‘forget this ever happened.’ If so, that’s what I will do.”
Madison’s mom was staunchly pro-life, but suggested making a few calls “to feel out their options.”

After speaking to a client advocate at the pregnancy center, Madison and her mom made an appointment for a consultation and an ultrasound.
They were looking forward to speaking with someone who could advise them on all options and available resources.
Upon arrival, the fetal model display caught Madison’s eye.
Picking up the model, she was visibly impacted by the realization that a small eight-week-old preborn baby was already so clearly formed.
She was even more moved when she read that her baby more than likely had a heartbeat already.
During the ultrasound, the sight of her own baby moving on the screen caused tears to well up in her eyes.
The pair left the pregnancy center with the intention of taking some time to further consider their options, but it was clear that Madison had begun leaning against abortion and toward parenting her baby.
Her mother offered love and support throughout the entire process.
She was confident Madison would make the right choice in the end, but she wanted to shepherd her through the process of making that choice on her own.
Within two weeks, Madison’s mom reached back out to the pregnancy center to let them know that Madison was now set on continuing her pregnancy and parenting her baby!
She shared that the entire family was excited and looking forward to bringing a new baby home.
