Emma knew the life of a mother was not for “the faint of heart.”

When she was just 17, she’d brought her firstborn into the world.

Although she’d become pregnant unexpectedly, she had a loving partner, and they had made a joint commitment to provide the best life possible for their new baby.

Now 23, Emma was a mother to two beautiful children: a six-year-old and a five-year-old.

For the past six years, Emma and her partner had kept their commitment to love and protect their children.

Even though they were young, they’d made a beautiful life for themselves.

Tragically, Emma’s partner passed away suddenly, leaving her alone and with no support system.

Not long after, Emma found out she was pregnant following an evening of “trying to drown her pain.”

Filled with deep regret, she wanted nothing more than to just “make the memory” – and its “consequences” – “go away.”

She began looking for an abortion facility online.

When she arrived for her appointment, she asked a lot of questions about fetal development.

She was particularly interested in a medication abortion.

Her client advocates counseled her on the emotional effects of abortion and told her about the alternatives to abortion.

She eventually consented to watch a video about the different types of risks of medication abortions – including physical.

While Emma spent hours listening and learning about her options, she seemed settled on abortion as “the best choice in her circumstances.”

That is – until she agreed to an ultrasound.

Within moments of seeing her baby on the screen, she proclaimed, “Okay, I have to keep this baby!”

Suddenly, it didn’t matter who the father was…

Emma was able to see that her baby was a uniquely formed person with a body and soul of its own!

Praise God!

Emma left that afternoon, empowered by her decision for life instead of death, and armed with both resources and the pledge of continued support from the pregnancy center.
