In our “CTRL+ALT+DEL” culture, where problems seem to find “quick and easy” resolutions by taking what seems to be “the easiest way out,” courage has become a rare commodity.
For a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy, “abortion” easily presents itself as the “CTRL+ALT+DEL” solution.
Helping her choose life means taking her by the hand and imparting courage to her so that she finds the strength to make the right choice.
Gloria’s courage failed her when she held the positive pregnancy test in her hands.
Her boyfriend’s apparent happiness at the news only filled her with resentment.
She felt certain that he was not mature enough to take care of himself – much less of her and a child!
Sure, it’s easy for him to be happy when HE’s not the one who has to deal with being pregnant.
She felt panicky and alone.
If there was anything she could do to “wish the pregnancy away,” she would!
Searching Google for information about abortion options, Gloria found Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response Ad, displaying a number she could text for help.
She texted, and Heroic Media’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Chicago responded promptly.
Gloria indicated that she was interested in obtaining a medical abortion and agreed to come in for an ultrasound to determine how far along she was.
Before the ultrasound, Gloria met with the intake counselor – and what she’d thought would be a “quick session” turned into a life-changing encounter instead!
The counselor first allayed Gloria’s fears by helping her think through the resources she may have already had available to her should she continue with the pregnancy, such as her own family and other community agencies.
She then shared about more resources in their community, of which Gloria was unaware.
And, more than that, she shared the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ with Gloria!
It was in coming to the knowledge and realization of Christ’s love and promises for her and her baby that Gloria found the courage she needed to see her situation in a new and different light.
Seeing the image of her baby on the ultrasound cemented Gloria’s decision to choose life.
The little baby she saw on the screen infused her with a courage and maternal resolve she had not felt before – to protect her baby at all costs!!
