The Psalmist proclaims that God’s favor upon us is a shield that covers over us.
What an amazing thought that His favor is like a shield of protection that keeps us sheltered under His wings!
More than that, this favor extends to our children, and our children’s children, and for a thousand generations!
God’s favor had never left Lauren, even if she did not always perceive it.
She was in a season of life when it seemed as if more things were working against her than for her.
Such as when she found out that her teenage daughter, Marie, was pregnant, but had hidden the news from her for months.
Lauren was enraged, but her love for, and strong maternal instincts to protect, her daughter superseded her rage.
She knew she needed to find help for Marie.
Lauren immediately searched on her phone for pregnancy options.
Marie had revealed that she wanted to take care of “the problem” herself by having an abortion behind her mother’s back – but she had waited too long, and now that she was much farther along in her pregnancy, she did not know what to do.
Lauren’s internet search triggered Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad, connecting her instantly to our Pregnancy Help Center partner in Phoenix, Arizona.
She made an appointment right away for Marie to be seen.
When they arrived at our partner pregnancy center, Marie told the staff that she did not want Lauren in the ultrasound room with her.
However, instead of leaving Lauren to wait alone in the waiting room, another counselor sat with her and helped her process through her swirling emotions as she walked through this crisis with her daughter.
Our partner PHC well understood that helping a decision for life to be made involved more than just the mother of the baby herself: the entire family system is caught in the immediate crisis of an unexpected pregnancy, and grandmothers-to-be like Lauren are also in need of support.
As a result of the compassion extended to her, Lauren revealed to the counselor that she had had an abortion when she was just 13 years old, and she wanted to shield and protect Marie from walking the same broken road that she had.
The counselor helped Lauren see how God’s restoration, healing, and redemption was very much upon her; His favor continued in abundant measure towards her and Marie; and this favor rested upon her preborn grandchild as well!
Lauren was able to see how God would continue to work His mercy in their lives, even in this time of crisis.
Just then, Marie came out of the ultrasound room and broke the stunning news to Lauren that she was over 24 weeks into her pregnancy!
Both mother and daughter knew abortion would not be an option!
Protected by the shield of God’s favor, they made the firm choice for life!
