And when we offer ourselves as testimonies of what God’s wondrous mercy can do, by telling the story of how He turned our lives around, we help others put their faith in Him and tangibly experience that same mercy!
Olivia’s parents were not happy when she told them about her unexpected pregnancy.
Her mother immediately went to the internet and searched for abortion information.
Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad popped up at the top of her search results, instantly connecting her with OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Phoenix, Arizona.
She stated that she was “calling for an abortion for her daughter.”
The skilled center hotline staff invited them to come in to assess the pregnancy and options, and they made an appointment to be seen right away.
Olivia was feeling extremely overwhelmed about being pregnant.
She was young, and the father of her baby did not want any involvement with their baby.
Her mother expressed to their client advocate that she felt deeply disappointed with her daughter, and feared the pregnancy would derail the bright future Olivia had before her.
Both mother and daughter were very quiet during the ultrasound, although it was apparent that seeing the image of Olivia’s baby was impactful…
After the ultrasound, Olivia’s mom tearfully turned to the client advocate and asked, “What do you think we should do?”
With great tenderness and compassion, the client advocate related to them her own experience with an unexpected pregnancy.
She empathized with Olivia and with her mom’s fears about how being a mother might “limit” her life.
However, she shared that in her experience, being a mother not only did not limit her, it opened up new and different opportunities.
She was able to still achieve the dreams she had, and what made it more sweet was having her child with her on the journey!
She was living proof of God’s mercy and how He made an unexpected pregnancy a gift!
Hearing the client advocate’s testimony moved Olivia’s mother to share her own experience of an unexpected pregnancy.
She realized she was being hypocritical for judging her daughter’s circumstance.
She was feeling scared, and did not want to see Olivia’s life “end”.
To this, the client advocate exclaimed with joyful encouragement, “Your daughter’s life won’t ‘end’! Yours didn’t! It just changes course, and something beautiful is waiting!”
Olivia’s mother herself was another living proof of God’s mercy!
The power of these two living testimonies dispelled any lingering doubts Olivia had about what she wanted to do.
She affirmed that she would continue with the pregnancy!
