Melissa was preparing to graduate from college when she realized she was unexpectedly pregnant.
She had planned to head to nursing school after graduating, and considering those plans, she believed having a baby at this time was out of the question.
To make matters more complicated, she was not entirely sure about who the father of the baby was, as she hadn’t been in a serious relationship for quite some time.
With graduation nearing, Melissa felt pressure to “take care” of the pregnancy “as quickly as possible.”
She began searching online for a local abortion facility.
Thanks to your support of Heroic Media’s OAASYS (On-demand Alternatives to Abortion SYStem) Emergency Response ads, she was connected with OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma instead, and made an appointment to be seen.
When Melissa arrived at the center, she was surprised to learn about all the support available for pregnant women – both from the pregnancy center and from the state.
When her client advocate began sharing about alternatives to abortion, Melissa let out a sigh of relief.
Her shoulders dropped and her stomach settled.
Suddenly, it became clear that abortion wasn’t her “only option.”
Melissa’s interest was most piqued when her client advocate shared about adoption as an alternative to abortion.
Before now, she’d never considered the reality that adoption could be one of the most loving options.
Her client advocate delicately shared that stories of adoption are found in the Bible, and that Scripture also tells us that if we believe in Jesus, He adopts us into His family.
Melissa didn’t consider herself a Christian, but she was interested in learning more about Christ’s love for her and for her baby.
By the time her client advocate had finished sharing – just in time for the ultrasound portion of the appointment – Melissa had tears in her eyes.
Behind the tears she proclaimed, “I want to know Christ like that.”
The ultrasound showed a beautiful and healthy 10-week-old baby.
When she saw his perfectly formed body on the screen, Melissa knew she couldn’t go through with an abortion.
She wasn’t sure what was next, but she knew she had the support she needed regardless of her decision to parent or to consider making an adoption plan.
Because of your support, Melissa was able to hear the truth of the Gospel and of God’s love for her as well as for her baby – and for the first time, the truth about adoption as a loving option!
Praise God!
And thank you, as always, for the critical role you play – week in and week out – helping save lives and change hearts!
God bless you!
Ephesians 1:5: “He predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace.”
