“Egypt” holds tremendous symbolic significance in the Bible: It signified the place of slavery, bondage, and oppression for the Israelites before God used Moses to work out His plan of salvation and redemption for His people.

Our metaphorical “Egypt” is when we were consigned to be “slaves to sin” before we accepted the gift of Jesus’ salvation for us.

Indeed, Israel’s redemption from Egypt is a picture of our deliverance from sin and death through faith in Jesus.

Christmas is a stark reminder of how God Himself stepped into our “Egypts,” into the land of “our oppression,” so that He can march us out of enslavement and into the freedom of His Promised Land!

Erika’s “Egypt” was being trapped in a relationship with an abusive husband who inflicted mental, emotional, and physical torture on her.

She finally found the wherewithal to separate from him – and in the midst of this, discovered she was pregnant.

Already experiencing a tremendous amount of stress, this discovery pushed her “to tipping point.”

Even though she “used to be very pro-life and loves kids,” she was determined that she would have no more connection with her soon-to-be ex-husband.

To have another child with him “would only complicate the separation.”

Erika’s internet search for abortion options triggered Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad, connecting her with OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – instead of one of the many abortion providers in her area.

The hotline counselor convinced her to make an appointment for an ultrasound to determine the viability of her pregnancy before she rushed to have an abortion.

During her intake session, Erika stated: “I have made up my mind and know what I have to do” – further revealing that she knew many friends who had had abortions who “all seemed fine in the aftermath.”

Even her best friend had told her that abortion was “the right thing to do.”

Determined though she was to have an abortion, she agreed to return to the center for an ultrasound appointment.

God already had a plan of deliverance for Erika out of her “Egypt”!

When she returned for her ultrasound, she shared that she had, in fact, gone to an abortion facility after her first appointment at the pregnancy center.

At the abortion business, the dichotomy between seeing people praying outside the facility and the abortion workers who were pressuring her to have an abortion was overwhelming.

One of the abortion workers even told her: “I know this is hard, but someday you will realize it was for the best.”

Instead of bringing her any “comfort,” her words jolted Erika to the reality that there was no way abortion would be “for the best” and she began to waver in her determination.

However, because she was fearful of the abortion workers’ reaction if she told them she needed time to reconsider, Erika hid the first abortion pill she was given in her mask, and as soon as she left, threw it out!

God was marching her out of “Egypt” and into the abundance of His Promised Land!

Erika made the decision to choose life and continue with her pregnancy!

The courage she found in God to walk away from her abusive husband and to fight the temptation to abort her baby meant she no longer lived “trapped in oppression.”

THANK YOU for your support of Heroic Media’s OAASYS – which helped her find the life-saving and life-changing help she needed to “march out of her Egypt!”

Psalm 81:11: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”
