Temptation is all around us, and the devil has thousands of strategies he tries to use to “corrupt our lives.”

Yet, how blessed are we that we have a promise in Scripture that if we “resist the devil, he will certainly flee.”

 Resisting isn’t always easy. Some might argue that resistance is only possible with the help of the Holy Spirit – but it is possible!

Jesus shows us how to resist temptation when He wards off the devil in the Gospel of Matthew.

Because of His success, we have a clear example to follow.

Karina was facing the temptation to pursue her own comfort, to take “the easy way out,” when she turned to the internet to search for making an abortion appointment.

Thanks to Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad, rather than an abortion facility, she was connected to OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The odds for changing her mind seemed grim.

Not only was Karina personally very abortion-minded, but the father of the baby was even more so.

There was “no question,” and there would be “no discussion”: “The baby would be aborted.”

Yet, upon speaking with a client advocate at the pregnancy center, Karina made an appointment to come in to see how far along her pregnancy had progressed.

When she failed to keep that appointment (and then another, and then another…), the center’s advocates did not “give up on her,” but continued to reach out with compassion and follow-up.

When they successfully connected with her a second time, Karina shared more about her partner’s insistence on the abortion.

In fact, he wasn’t just insistent – he was verbally abusive at times.

It became more and more clear that Karina was in an extremely difficult situation.

The client advocates continued to encourage her to come in.

When she finally did, she received her first sonogram.

That sonogram changed everything!

Karina’s client advocate handed the printed images to her, and she clutched them firmly up against her chest, saying, “This is my baby! No one can make me kill this baby!”

Karina took that one small step of faith, and God took care of the rest.

The conflict in her heart was resolved, and she was set free from the temptation of abortion and “pursuing her own comfort.”

Suddenly, Karina wasn’t afraid any longer.

She felt determined and empowered to choose life for her baby – and now has the strong support of both her family and the pregnancy center, and is receiving prenatal care from a local OBGYN.
