The Keeper: Jenn – A Save Story from Phoenix, Arizona
God is described by the Psalmist as our “keeper.”
In Hebrew, “keeper” is translated as “shamar,” which literally means “to hedge about”: surrounding a thing for protection or containment; to guard, preserve, and keep safe; to be treasured.
When God “keeps” us, it does not mean freedom from trouble or pain.
Rather, He promises to “shamar” us in the very midst of difficult circumstances, putting an impenetrable hedge around us.
We can have complete faith while undergoing trials and trust God as our keeper!
Jenn knew in her heart that abortion was wrong.
Yet, she was feeling so profoundly overwhelmed by her circumstances that even though she did not want to go through with an abortion, she could not see how she would be able to have another child.
Her work was physically demanding, and being pregnant would make it hard for her to do her job.
If she lost her job, who would provide for her older children?
The father of this baby had made it clear that he would not be supporting either her or their baby.
In plain terms: “If she chose to continue with the pregnancy, she would have to do it alone.”
Feeling utterly forsaken, Jenn searched the internet for abortion options.
God used your support of Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad campaign in Phoenix, Arizona as one of the first measures to hedge His protective care around Jenn and proved Himself as her “shamar” in the midst of her crisis.
OAASYS’s ad populated at the top of Jenn’s internet search results and she was connected with our Pregnancy Help Center partner in Phoenix.
The hotline staff helped her understand the importance of first obtaining an ultrasound before she made a hasty abortion decision.
Persuaded, Jenn made an appointment to be seen.
During the ultrasound, she became very emotional.
Seeing her baby on the screen further drove home her original reservations about abortion, and fully convinced her that it was wrong.
She broke down in tears, stating, “I don’t think I can do that (have an abortion)!”
With the compassionate support and encouragement of the center staff, Jenn came to realize that she had what it took to be a good mother, even if she would have to raise this child on her own.
She chose life!
Faith, which displaced her initial fears, welled up within her when she saw how God protected her from making a decision she would forever regret had she gone through with an abortion.
The center was also able to provide her with prenatal care and additional parenting resources to help her throughout her pregnancy.
