Ava wasn’t sure about all of her plans for after high school – but she was sure those plans didn’t involve “having a baby and becoming a teen mom”…
With her relationship with the father of the baby headed in a downhill direction, she was determined to get an abortion as soon as she saw the two pink lines on her pregnancy test.
When Ava told her boyfriend about the unexpected pregnancy, he immediately encouraged her to get the abortion – along with clearly showing no interest in helping her or supporting her in any way.
They mutually agreed to keep the news a secret from their parents.
Ava began searching for an abortion provider who would prescribe “the abortion pill regimen.”
What she found instead was Heroic Media’s OAASYS Emergency Response ad – competing head-to-head against the abortion providers’ ads – instantly connecting her with OAASYS’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in San Antonio, Texas.
When she called the displayed phone number, she explained her situation and made an appointment to come in to speak in person with the center staff.
Although she seemed to have her mind set on the abortion pill, their initial conversation admittedly made her curious to learn more about her options.
She hadn’t spoken to anyone about the situation other than her boyfriend, and found the opportunity to process and discuss her pregnancy confidentially appealing.
Ava drove to the appointment on her own.
Her client advocates shared information about pregnancy support, alternatives to abortion, and offered to have her back in for a complimentary ultrasound.
She left the appointment undecided – at least “an improvement” from her abortion-determined state of mind upon arrival.
Several days later, Ava returned for the ultrasound.
Once again, she left the appointment undecided.
Her client advocates texted her the next day to check in and learned that Ava had shared the news with her mother – who’d promptly scheduled an abortion appointment.
Days later, when the center staff followed up again, they learned that she’d missed her abortion appointment because she’d felt overwhelmed studying for finals and juggling other school responsibilities.
What Ava didn’t realize was that she was now too far along to “legally obtain” an abortion in Texas, since abortion had been “effectively banned” in Texas once a heartbeat is detected.
After speaking again with the pregnancy center staff, she made a third appointment to come in for an ultrasound.
This time, along with the sound of his very strong heartbeat filling the room, Ava saw her tiny baby jumping around doing flips in her womb.
She was 15 weeks pregnant!
She could clearly see her baby’s head, belly, and fingers!
With her maternal instinct to nurture and protect “taking over,” without hesitation, Ava exclaimed that she wanted to parent her baby.
Her mother also chose to support her decision!
Thanks be to God!
And thank you for your unwavering support of Heroic Media’s Emergency Response campaigns, which God continues to use to make these life-saving stories possible every week!
God bless you!
