Kristina’s fingers stood poised above her phone’s keyboard.
She could barely bring herself to type out the text message.
“What do I have to do to get an abortion?”
Holding back tears, she sent the message.
Only a few days ago, Kristina had felt excited to see the positive pregnancy test.
Even though she knew she was young and there was a lot of hard work ahead of her, she also knew that she wanted this baby.
But, her boyfriend’s reaction to her pregnancy had swiftly changed her mind.
He told Kristina that the only way forward was an abortion, and that she had better “figure it out”.
Devastated by his response, Kristina turned to Google, searching on her phone for abortion information.
She clicked on a Heroic Media ad, sent a text message to Heroic Media’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in Chicago – not knowing that this text message would change the course of her future.
After texting back and forth with the center, Kristina eventually made an appointment.
When the time arrived, she brought her best friend with her.
They both seemed nervous and overwhelmed by the situation.
The counselor asked Kristina about her desires for her future.
Kristina shared that she wanted to pursue a degree in nursing after high school.
She also opened up and told the counselor that she knew she wanted to “keep this baby,” but the pressure from her boyfriend to get an abortion seemed too difficult to overcome.
The counselor encouraged Kristina by sharing with her the multitude of resources in her community that would support her and her child, and she reminded Kristina of her innate strength to overcome.
But it was not until Kristina saw the ultrasound that everything changed in her heart and mind.
The ultrasound screen lit up with a very active 11-week-old baby.
Kristina began to cry.
From that moment forward she felt empowered in her new motherhood and, armed with the support of the center, bravely and boldly chose life for her tiny child.
Praise the Lord for Kristina’s strength and courage!
