Lena scrolled through her phone, the bright light of the screen her only companion in her dark bedroom.
She felt totally alone, not sure whether the phone was making her feel more connected or more isolated.
She thought she might be pregnant, but she had been too afraid to find out for certain.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled up Google and searched for abortion and pregnancy information.
She clicked on the first link she saw, a Heroic Media ad, and called the number on the landing page.
“Hello? Yes, I want a pregnancy test.”
She had connected with Heroic Media’s Pregnancy Help Center partner in New Orleans, and this connection would change her life.
When Lena arrived at the center for her appointment, she repeated the same phrase over and over: “I just can’t have a baby now.”
She shared with the counselor that she felt that she had no support system and that she would have to face any decision she made entirely by herself.
The counselor encouraged Lena to share her situation with her family and lean on them and the local community for support.
After watching the screen and seeing the tiny 10-week-old human swimming around in her belly, she asked for a copy of the ultrasound to take home.
Although she still seemed unsure about her decision, Lena’s walls were beginning to crumble.
When her pregnancy counselor reached out to her again, Lena shared that the encouragement to share her fears with her family had empowered her to do so.
She told the counselor that she had showed them the ultrasound photo, and, together, they had committed to choosing life for her preborn baby.
Praise God for their courageous and selfless decision!

against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.
Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
