Nelida sat on the side of her bed with her head in her hands.

She could not imagine how things could get any worse.

She never could have imagined that she would find herself in this situation.

Nelida and her husband had recently separated.

He had left her to care for their 3 children on her own.

She did not feel like she had the qualifications necessary to get the kind of job that could support her family and had recently gone back to school.

She was taking a full class load while working full-time and trying to care for her young family.

During all of this, Nelida had started seeing a man, until she found out he was married.

Now, she was pregnant. With this man’s child.

When she told him, he said he wanted nothing to do with her or this baby.

He told her she would ruin his marriage with this pregnancy and that she “had to abort.”

Nelida’s heart felt like it had been shattered again and then again.

Feeling she had nowhere else to turn, she pulled out her phone and searched Google for the abortion she’d been told she had to have.

Nelida clicked on a Heroic Media ad and connected with our Pregnancy Help Center partner in Houston, where she made an appointment.

Nelida arrived at the center and laid out the pieces of her broken heart in front of her counselor.

She told her counselor everything, through a flood of tears – the first she had cried in a very long time.

The counselor comforted Nelida and encouraged her.

She let Nelida express the full range of emotions she was experiencing and prayerfully listened to Nelida’s broken heart.

She enumerated for Nelida all the help the center had to offer and told her she was worthy of love.

She assured Nelida that this little baby already loved her and was an opportunity and blessing for a future of love and life.

Nelida began to experience hope.

When she saw her little baby on the ultrasound, Nelida began to see that this baby was an invitation to a new, fuller and more beautiful life.

Filled with love, Nelida chose life for her baby and hope for herself!

Praise the Lord Who hears the cries of the brokenhearted and comforts them!

Psalm 34:18: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
